Finding topics in the knowledge base

You can find topics in the Knowledge Base in various ways:

The Knowledge Base is accessible in both Netscape and Internet Explorer, but has been optimized for Internet Explorer.

Selecting related topic links

As on a web site, you can locate topics by selecting appropriate links on the topic pages, and using browser options when needed. For example:

Navigating the Contents folders

By default, the left pane of a Knowledge Base displays a table of contents that provides links to all pages in the Knowledge Base. It contains book links + Book icon and page links Page icon.

To find topics by using the Contents

  1. If required, in the navigation pane, click Contents.
  2. In the Contents pane, click a book or page link of interest.

    The linked topic is displayed in the main window. If you clicked on a book link, the icon changes to - Book icon, and related page links appear below.

  3. Repeat step 2 until you reach the topic you need.

* Tip: To widen the left pane, click and drag on the area just below and to the right of the line that separates the navigation buttons (Contents, Index, Search) from the options below.

Finding topics by Index keywords

The Index pane presents an alphabetical, two-level list of keywords that link to related topics, much like a page number Index at the back of a printed book.

To find topics by using the Index

  1. In the navigation pane, click Index.
  2. Scroll down the full Index list to find a keyword of interest

    or

    In the keyword field, type the word to look up.

    As you type, notice that the list of Index terms automatically scrolls accordingly. Therefore, you often do not have to type the entire word.

  3. In the Index list, click a keyword of interest.

    Either a related topic is displayed, or a context window listing various topics appears.

  4. If a context window appears, select the topic of interest.

Searching for topics

A full-text search of all text on the Knowledge Base pages is also available.

To search for topics in the Knowledge Base

  1. In the navigation pane, click Search.
  2. In the search field, type the word or words to search on.
  3. Press Enter or click Go. Search button

    A list of the topics containing the search words appears. Note that they are in alphabetical and not relevance order.

  4. Click the search result of interest.
  5. To find your search term on the topic page, click in the topic page, then select Edit> Find (on This Page).

<.>Note: Searching is available only on Windows systems running Internet Explorer.

Printing all topics in the Knowledge Base

If you prefer, you can print the entire Knowledge Base. To print only the current topic, click Print This Page.

!Caution: Some Knowledge Bases are very large. Printing large Knowledge Bases takes a long time and uses a lot of paper.

To print all topics in the Knowledge Base

  1. Click Contents. Expand - book icon all of the book links.
  2. Select the first topic in the Contents list.
  3. Right-click an empty area in the Contents pane.
  4. Select Print.
  5. In the Print dialog, switch to the Options tab.
  6. Select the Print all linked documents checkbox.
  7. Click Print.
  8. All linked documents are printed, one topic per page.

<.>Note: Netscape does not support multiple-topic printing.
