HIS verification: key concepts
An unverified study is an incoming study that does not match the information for that study from the HIS (Hospital Verification Information System). HIS verification is a process that confirms the validity of the data associated with study for a particular patient. When HIS verification fails for a study, there is no assurance that the associated data is unique. An unverified study could contain erroneous information or be for the wrong patient. The HIS verification of study occurs on the server side through correspondence with the HIS. The results of the verification are reflected in the status of the study. Studies are either:
Most studies pass verification and their state is not indicated. Unverified studies are the exception and therefore generate warnings. Studies that fail verification return a warning message: The demographic information contained within this study could not be verified and may be incorrect. If you are retrieving multiple studies, the warning message indicates that one or more studies are unverified. For example, The demographic information contained within 2 out of 3 studies could not be verified and may be incorrect.
To view unverified studies, click OK on the warning message. When doing so, be aware of the potential risk of incorrect patient information.
If all studies are returned with warning messages, it is possible that HIS verification is not turned on. Speak with your system administrator about configuring HIS verification using the Service Tools.
